BLACKAMOOR LAMPS

Consolidation, bronzing and patination, regilding.

This commanding pair of eight foot high Blackamoor antique lamps had been left in a poor condition, the black gesso surface having become worn and damaged and the gilding faded. Different techniques were applied to consolidate the different surfaces, restoring the bronze figures to their original condition. The black gesso (a stiff mix of acrylic paint, chalk and glue) was retouched and a patina carefully applied to recreate the effect of aged bronze. The details were then regilded, restoring both pieces back to their striking original beauty.
